A Word About System Requirements

Alien Skin's official system requirements are above, but I would like to add some of my own. First, I'd like to preface the requirements with a little discussion. Windows XP has been around for quite some time now. While Windows 2000 is certainly more stable than any other previously released operating system, it is still not as stable as Windows XP. I know this because I've used Windows 2000 extensively and was actually hesitant to migrate to Windows XP Pro. Once I did, I never looked back.

DigitalDingus Recommended Windows System (Setup 1)

  • 2GHz Pentium 4 processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • Windows XP Home
DigitalDingus Recommended Windows System (Setup 2)

  • Pentium D processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • Windows XP Pro
DigitalDingus Recommended Windows System (Setup 3)

  • Dual Xeon 3.6GHz processor
  • 2GB+ RAM
  • Windows XP Pro
Probably most of you have Setup 1 with a Pentium 4 processor. If you don't have a 2GHz or higher processor, please get one. They are ridiculously cheap these days. I highly encourage you to also upgrade your RAM to at least 2GB. You will need Photoshop 7 or later to run Exposure, so by definition, you should have at least 1GB already. Memory is not that expensive, especially if you're purchasing DDR. DDR2 modules are a little more pricey but remember, it will pay off in the long run.

Windows Vista?

Currently, Vista is still in Beta (some of you may have even signed up for the test CD or download) and will be released sometime in early 2007. DigitalDingus has acquired the Beta CD and may release a review of it in the future (potentially around late October). Until then, I hesitate to say whether or not Vista will be a reliable operating system as XP Home and XP Pro are.
