Just over a year ago, DigitalDingus reviewed the VIZO Uranus (URA-350SA), which was one of Vizo's top of the line 3.5" HDD Enclosures. Now, VIZO has introduced the Luxon Advanced ED (LUE-360), which is a little less expensive, but appears to be a viable option if you're not looking for a premium HDD enclosure. The LUE-360-BK (the two letter extension means Black, which was the version I received) is another one of VIZO's sleak and sexy hard drive enclosures, which are made from high quality aluminum. The Luxon Advanced ED series comes in black, blue, or gray. For those looking at a simple and relatively inexpensive solution for external storage, definitely take a look at the Luxon offerings from VIZO.

External Storage Continues To Be Popular

Data storage demands are continuing to increase, and currently, the most viable and economical solution is purchasing relatively inexpensive hard drives, and mounting them in external enclosures. The reason for the external enclosure choice is the consumer wants portability. The typical computer user has several computers throughout their home, especially in a family, and using an external drive is much more convenient than figuring out how to network computers together. Today, networking computers is still a task which many avoid.

Luxon Advanced ED Features

Let's view the list of some of the Luxon Advanced ED's features:

  • 3.5" SATA Hard Drive Compatible
  • 480Mbps High Speed USB 2.0 and USB 1.1
  • 3Gbps High-Speed External Serial-ATA (eSATA)
  • Real 3Gb/s Chipset For eSATA speed
  • Aluminum housing for heat dissipation
  • Side vents for better cooling
  • LED working status and file transfer
  • Plug & Play supported
This is certainly a good list of features for a sub-$40 (street price) enclosure unit.

Luxon Advanced ED vs. Uranus URA-350SA

You're probably wondering what the exact differences are between these two enclosures. The Uranus has a button which allows for OS system file transfers at the touch of a button, as well as pre-determined files and folders. In addition, you have an internal fan for even more cooling of the hard drive, and a heavy-duty 4-pin DIN power adapter set for stable power.
