Let's take a closer look at the Verilux Rise & Shine Deluxe. The Rise & Shine Deluxe which DigitalDingus received, came shipped very well. An outer cardboard box protected the retail box inside. Inside the retail cardboard box, I found two foam pieces which housed the contents (lamp, shade, AC adapter, AC cord, pillow speaker attachment, 60W full spectrum bulb, user manual and warranty materials). The overall protection of the shipped contents is done very well, and Verilux does a great job at making sure the product will arrive to your doorstep in perfect condition. There are two colors the Rise & Shine Deluxe comes in: Graphite and Ivory. I particularly was fond of the graphite color, and was fortunate enough to receive it.

The Front Of The Rise & Shine Deluxe

The front of the Rise & Shine Deluxe (RSD) may not seem like a lamp due to the many options available to you. Verilux has intelligently created a button layout which gives easy access to all the functions. For example, the lamp control knob (shown below) when turned to the right, increases the light output, and when turned to the left, decreases light output. A quick turn to the left or right will decrease or increase the light output by a small amount, allowing for a customized lighting environment. By pushing in on the knob, the light turns on or off.

A large LCD for viewing the clock from a distance, is featured. The digital numerals on the clock are about 1" high which is a standard size for most clocks. Using the RSD, I could easily see the time from a distance of 15-feet.

The Side Of The Rise & Shine Deluxe

On the right side of the RSD, a rotary AM/FM tuner can be found, as well as the AM or FM selection, display brightness of the LCD front panel, color mode (7-color or single), and the sound volume.

The Back Of The Rise & Shine Deluxe

The back of the RSD is where you insert the DC plug from the AC/DC converter and the pillow speaker attachment. An FM antenna can also be seen which should be unwound and positioned for maximum reception quality.

Underneath The Rise & Shine Deluxe

This almost escaped my observation, but underneath the RSD you will find a compartment to put 4-AA batteries. This is the battery backup so all your settings will not be lost in case of a power outage. What I really find convenient is Verilux opted for AA batteries instead of the annoying 9V batteries I just seem to not have. I mean really, how many electronic items do you own which take 9V batteries? Other than a smoke alarm, 9V batteries are kind of useless because few electronic devices use them. AA batteries on the other hand, are accepted in just about everything and I have many of these lying around, just waiting to be used in something.

Pillow Speaker Attachment

The Rise & Shine Deluxe (RSD) comes with a pillow speaker attachment. Simply place the speaker underneath your pillow and the nature sounds pre-programmed in the RSD can be heard much closer.

AC Adapter

The Rise & Shine Deluxe's AC Adapter is of good quality, and typical of a good design, comes in two parts: The AC/DC converter and cord which attaches to the lamp (approximately 45" including the 5" length of the AC/DC converter) and the AC power cord which attaches to the AC/DC converter. I did notice the AC cord is rather short (30" overall and about 24" of actual cord), which may pose a problem for those living rooms or bedrooms where the AC outlet are located in problematic locations. The AC cord length can be solved with a replacement cord which can be purchased in any hardware store. This may have been Verilux's intention.

Of possible interest to viewers is Verilux specs the overall cord length to 96" (8ft) when DigitalDingus actually measured the overall cord length and obtained a measurement of 75" (6.25ft).
