LG ELECTRONICS SHOWCASES NEW LINE OF OPTICAL STORAGE DRIVES AT CES 2006

January 5, 2006

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2006 – LG Electronics, the largest optical storage manufacturer in the world and leading supplier of drives in the U.S., today introduced the latest additions to its line of Super-Multi optical storage drives at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). LG was the first company to offer a multi-format optical drive, and it continues to develop new technology and push the limits in the optical storage category. The new drives are on display this week at CES – LG Electronics booth #8214, Central Hall, Las Vegas Convention Center.

12x DVD-RAM

A preferred format for professionals and tech-savvy users, DVD-RAM is known for its reliability and ease of use, but read and write speeds have lagged behind many of the other formats – until now.

A major addition to LG's Super-Multi line of drives is the GSA-H10N, one of the world's first optical storage drives that can write DVD-RAM at a 12x speed. The Super-Multi GSA-H10N is designed for anyone with storage needs where consistency and the ability to re-write data and video is a must. Whether to back-up MP3s, videos, digital pictures or any large files, this drive can handle it all at speeds only a few have ever experienced. In addition to the 12x DVD-RAM write speed, this unit features write speeds of 16x for both DVD+R and DVD-R, write speeds of DVD+RW to 8x, DVD-RW to 6x, DVD+R DL at 10x and DVD-R DL at 8x.

ONE TOUCH AV CAPTURE

In today's world, digital media is thriving and hard drive space is at a premium as consumers fill their computers with photos, music and videos and demand convenient products to support new pastimes. LG's External GSA-5169D Super-Multi drive – a one touch AV capture device offering users the convenience of Super-Multi compatibility and reliability plus audio video capturing – addresses these needs.

With a simple press of a button, the GSA-5169D will capture and transfer data, images and video directly from a digital camera, DVD-video player, camcorder – even from television – to a CD or DVD.

TAKE FAST BURN SPEEDS AND LIGHTSCRIBE TECHNOLOGY ANYWHERE

LG consistently develops products with real-world convenience and functionality to meet the needs of today's consumers. Such is the case with the new External GSA-2166D Super-Multi that enables consumers to burn DVD media at true 16x speeds, anywhere.

The External GSA-2166D Super-Multi is a versatile device, burning MP3s, videos, digital pictures or any large files easily with the ability to read and write in all CD and DVD formats including DVD-RAM. In addition to write speeds of 16x for both DVD+R and DVD-R, the unit also features write speeds for DVD+RW to 8x, DVD-RW to 6x and DVD+DL to 4x. For consumers who appreciate convenience and the latest in technology, the Super-Multi GSA-2166D is equipped with LightScribe, a technology allowing consumers to produce precise, laser-etched labels directly onto select DVD or CD media. All of the great features in the GSA-2166D can also be found in an internal version – the GSA-4166B.

16X SPEED AND 8.5 GB STORAGE

Complementing LG's feature-rich lineup of optical drives are the GSA-2164D (external) and the GSA-4167B (internal). Both units are capable of 16x write speeds in DVD+R and DVD- R and 8.5GB double-layer recording. The GSA-2164D features a USB 2.0 user interface for easy connectivity. These drives also feature write speeds of 8x for DVD+RW, 6x for DVD-RW and 5x for DVD-RAM.

Slim is Not Just for Monitors

Rounding out LG's 2006 optical storage offering is the GSA-4082N Super-Multi. This ultra-thin drive, measuring only five inches wide, and ½-inch high, has 8x DVD+R and DVD-R write speeds in addition to 8.5GB double layer recording. As with all Super-Multi Drives, the GSA-4082N is compatible with all CD and DVD media.
