The SP8PRT Sets a New Standard in the Digital Picture Frame Market

At PMA 2008, Smartparts, Inc., a leading manufacturer and innovator driving the explosive digital picture frame market, showcased the world’s first digital picture frame with a built-in photo printer. Part of the company’s extensive and highly-successful OptiPix™ family of digital picture frames, the Smartparts SP8PRT takes versatility to a whole new level as it gives consumers the ability to print any digital picture stored on the frame with the touch of a button.

“The SP8PRT offers consumers the best of both worlds,” said Stefan Guelpen, president and co-founder of Smartparts. “Not only does it enable consumers to display their digital images in a way that is more convenient and familiar than on a PC, it also bridges the gap that exists between those who prefer digital and hard copy images. At the push of a button, consumers can instantly create a 4x6-inch color print to share with friends or family all without having to boot up their PC, locate the photo, and use a large, cumbersome printer.”

Incorporated into the body of the frame, the printer is concealed behind the SP8PRT’s LCD screen, making the dimensions of the product similar to that of a traditional picture frame. For printing photos right out of the box, the SP8PRT comes supplied with one dye sublimation (dye-sub) color cartridge loaded with ink and paper. By simply loading the cartridge into the frame, consumers can immediately begin printing photos of incredible quality, similar to that of higher-priced, stand-alone photo printers. With one dye-sub cartridge, consumers can produce 36 4x6-inch glossy prints. Replacement cartridges are sold separately and are available at select retail locations.

Featuring an eight inch LCD screen with a resolution of 800x600, the SP8PRT can display images in remarkable clarity. The frame can also playback video with sound, including WMA and AVI files at their native resolutions, and accepts most popular memory cards, including Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick (MS), and xD Picture Card.

Additionally, with Smartparts’ advanced OptiPix Pro software, consumers can optimize and resize their images to fit the resolution of the frame. Available as a free download with the purchase of an SP8PRT, Smartparts’ exclusive OptiPix Pro software is designed to help consumers effortlessly locate, optimize and transfer pictures to their frame from their computer, all in just three easy to-follow steps.

Furthermore, OptiPix Pro will not alter consumers’ original photos. OptiPix Pro first creates copies which are then optimized and transferred to the frame or memory card, leaving the original, untouched photo residing on the computer. OptiPix Pro also gives users the ability to convert and transfer PowerPoint slides, PDF files, and most picture and graphic files directly to the SP8PRT, a useful feature especially for business or retail applications.

The eight inch SP8PRT will retail for $279 and will be available through Smartpart’s extensive network of over 10,000 retailers nationwide.
