Belkin Corporation today announces implementation of the Intel Wireless UWB Link 1480 MAC silicon in its upcoming UWB USB Adapter based on WiNet and Certified Wireless USB technology. As an initial application, the USB Adapter will support peer-to-peer connectivity, enabling users to share multimedia content between computers. It will be available in Q1 2007.

Based on the Certified Wireless USB specification and the WiMedia network specification, Intel's solution offers short-range, high-bandwidth capabilities with low power consumption, making it the ideal wireless personal connectivity solution for the digital home and office.

This collaboration highlights the strong commitment by both Belkin and Intel to bring wireless freedom to people. It effectively combines Belkin's continued dedication to deliver easy-to-use devices with Intel's leadership in Certified Wireless USB.

"We are very excited to be working with Intel on our UWB USB Adapter product based on Certified Wireless USB," comments Mark Reynoso, Sr. VP of Sales and Marketing for Belkin. "UWB will become the single, standard wireless interconnect capable of supporting usage models across all three environments: PC, CE, and mobile market segments. With Intel's strong roadmap, innovation, and speed-to-market capabilities, we will be able to effectively deliver useful solutions that will change how people connect."

"Belkin's decision to go to market with an Intel host solution based on our Intel Wireless UWB Link 1480 MAC silicon is a step toward the reality of wireless access for all users," says Ganesh Prasad, General Manager of Intel's Ultra-Wideband Networking Operation. "The resulting product will provide end users unwired, high-bandwidth access to their digital content via concurrent connectivity between PCs, DTVs, set-tops and printers, and their peripheral devices."
