Konica Minolta Sensing Americas, Inc. (KMSA)

June 5, 2006

Origin Of News Release: San Francisco, California

In a move to strengthen its top-tier position in color, light and the precise representations of shapes and dimensions, Konica Minolta recently formed a new company, Konica Minolta Sensing Americas, Inc. (KMSA) to sell and market instrumentation systems in the United States and the Americas. A wholly-owned subsidiary of Konica Minolta Holdings USA, Inc., KMSA will be headquartered in Ramsey, NJ and incorporates the former Instrument Systems Division of Konica Minolta Photo Imaging U.S.A. as the nucleus of the new company. Kaoru Morishita has been named general manager of KMSA. The company officially begins operations in April 2006.

"We see tremendous opportunity to grow our market share in the color and appearance measurement industry, as well as in the 3D metrology market," said Kaoru Morishita, general manager, KMSA. "Konica Minolta has a long legacy of innovation and technological breakthroughs in products that measure color, light and appearance and precision dimensional measurement. Our new company structure will allow us to devote the resources we need to build a stronger and more vital organization."

According to Morishita, Konica Minolta's decision to withdraw from traditional photography to focus on strategic non-consumer and business markets, and the planned departure of Konica Minolta Photo Imaging U.S.A., provided the impetus to form the new company. "The timing is right to create a new company dedicated to measurement instrumentation, where we can build upon our decades of success and apply our core technologies in optics, color and software to develop new generations of products. Our instruments and software help companies in a wide range of industries improve their products, streamline development and improve the bottom line by reducing manufacturing costs through more precise measurement of critical color and appearance, light and display, and 3D representation of shapes and dimensions."
