UPEK Fingerprint Reader

March 8, 2006

HANNOVER, Germany & BERKELEY, Calif. (March 8, 2006) UPEK, Inc., the world's leading brand of biometric fingerprint security solutions, today announced that it is introducing at the annual CeBIT electronics trade fair in Hannover, Germany, a PC peripheral fingerprint reader that enables secure access to data and applications with the simple swipe of a finger.

The new UPEK fingerprint reader was developed to better meet the needs of a new generation of security-savvy consumers and growing demands of corporations intently focused on protecting access to digital networks and on-line environments where security is critical. It is the first biometric security solution designed to make legacy installed systems compatible with the new generation of notebook computers equipped with fingerprint authentication technology.

For consumers, it means the end of password reminder notes meant to protect private sites and sensitive data. "Our customers have been asking us for a product that marries convenience with security," stated Greg Goelz, UPEK vice president of marketing. "As adoption of our biometric authentication solutions grows across ever-widening market sectors, we are leading the effort in offering convenient and secure authentication solutions for customers on a global basis."

The UPEK fingerprint reader is available in a software development kit for fast and easy integration by software developers and can be customized according to the brand and identity requirements of OEMs. The UPEK fingerprint reader represents the newest product stemming from a ten-year legacy of technology innovation that includes the development of the only complete hardware/software biometric solution for the PC market, already adopted by three of the top five notebook PC manufacturers; a solution for the first broadly deployed biometrically-protected flash drive with true portability; and a mobile solution that provides simplified protection, personalization and navigation for wireless applications.

Sporting a sleek modern design, the new UPEK fingerprint reader can be configured to protect desktop or notebook computers at logon and eliminates the need for countless passwords by facilitating access to password-protected web sites and networks with the swipe of a finger. These and other functions, including a secure banking transaction, will be demonstrated at CeBIT.

For more information or to schedule a viewing of the new fingerprint reader, show guests are invited to contact Mr. Eric Boussier at eric.boussier@upek.com, or visit UPEK at CeBIT March 9-15, 2006 in Booth 5e in the CEFIS (Centre for Information Security) area of Hall 7.
