Olympus Announces New Consumer E-System Macro Lens
September 26, 2005

Melville, New York, Sept 26, 2005 - Olympus today announced the release of its new Zuiko Digital 35mm 1:1 macro lens, a powerful compact lens affordably priced for the enthusiast photographer. Further expanding the extensive family of interchangeable Zuiko Digital Specific™ lenses for the Olympus E-System, the new 35mm macro lens is specifically designed for detailed close-up photography, enabling photographers to capture life-size images from as close as 5.8 inches from their subject.

“Many of today's photographers enjoy the advantage of their digital SLR camera's close-up and macro photography capabilities” said John Knaur, senior marketing manager, Olympus Imaging America Inc. “As an addition to the extensive family of interchangeable Zuiko Digital Specific lenses, the 35mm macro offers enthusiast photographers an alternative to higher-priced macro lenses, while still maintaining the exceptional high quality and edge-to-edge sharpness associated with Zuiko Digital Specific Lenses.”

Affordably Priced Macro Lens for Stunning Close-ups

You don't have to be a professional to appreciate the ability of this macro lens to capture details as fine as the translucent petals of a lily or the wood grain of an antique desk. The Zuiko 35mm macro lens puts close-range capabilities into the hands of every digital SLR photographer at an affordable price. The ability to capture 1:1 life-size reproductions comes in especially handy for on-line auctions, as well as highly detailed close-range subjects such as flowers, stamps and coins, and the addition of magnification marks on the lens barrel make it simple to precisely capture images at full-size, half-size or a quarter the size of the actual subject.

100% Designed for Digital Lenses ,br> Olympus has taken a purist approach in the design of the E-System by creating 100% digital lenses that comply with the Four Thirds System to be perfectly matched to the imager so light strikes the sensor directly, ensuring rich, accurate colors, sharp contrasts and bright images even at the edges. An additional benefit of the Zuiko Digital Specific Lenses is the ability to upgrade the firmware for optimal communication between the lens and the camera body, enabling better compensation for common distortions such as “shading” (darkening of the edges of an image that sometimes occur in photographs) or “barrel distortion” (the bowing of vertical lines).

Durable Construction

Designed to meet the needs of the enthusiast photographer, the Zuiko Digital 35mm f3.5 macro use advanced optical designs, and the highest quality optical glass to provide crisp clear photographs. All Zuiko lenses are lead-free, built instead using titanium for lightweight durability. Reinforced metal lens mounts on each lens offer added support when attaching the lenses to E-System SLR camera bodies.

U.S. Pricing & Availability

The Zuiko Digital 35mm Macro Lens will be available in October 2005. Estimated street price: $229.99.
