Nikon D70 (A "Pre" Preview)
(December 5, 2003)

1. Introduction*
2. Update (January 28, 2004)
3. Specifications

Nikon has announced the D70, almost 4 months after the announcement of Canon's 300D. Specifications are merely an educated guess, and Nikon has even taken the care to attach a large lens to the front of the D70 to hide any possible new cosmetic features that may be revised between now and then.

300D or D70?

Well, this is very early to even guess, but it is well known that 300D users are noticing the limited functionality of their cameras. Whether Nikon is going to cripple the D70 vs. its D100 brother, or will add more features, is unclear. Potential users need to realize that there are reasons for each model that is released. Apparently, some thought they could get a 10D at a 300D price. Well, they found out otherwise. The 300D is a nice camera for sure, but it is not as flexible as the 10D. Will the D70 be as flexible as the D100? Probably not, but it may have more flexability than a 300D--which is the big question that potential 300D or D70 users are currently debating.

The Preview

There is little preview info to provide, as Nikon has not provided any specifications for the D70. All we have is a photo of the front--they haven't even released a photo of the back, or at any other angle.

Body Construction

We don't know at this point. It could be the same body construction as the D100. This would be very nice.

Guestimated Specifications

What is known is the D70 is based on it's film version, the N75. However, we may see some modifications. The D100 is not exactly an N80, and was modified as well.
