Well, for the record, I had trouble connecting over the past few days. It does appear to be the Firewall "feature" in my case, but I'm testing it more.

Due note that Windows 2000 source code has been leaked, and we may see some serious viruses wreaking major havoc to our computers in the future. The Sasser was just a taste. I think the latest features in SP2 are a result of that eventual problem.

You may be right. Interesting that I haven't heard of a 2K SP yet... just XP.
They're both from the same code base, just UI and add-ons in XP, if I read between the lines correctly.

Microsoft has officially launched the upgrades to the first wave of computers. Apparently they are NOT going to release it to all computers via automatic updates at the same time--it will be spread out over a period of a few months.

Also, in case you use P2P clients such as eMule, there is a registry adjustment you can read and download here:

What these registry adjustments do is allow for much higher TCP connections versus the 10 TCP connection max that SP2 (2180) puts on your PC. However, please use this reg adjustment at your own risk. If you don't use P2P clients, don't worry about this. All this does, is allow many more connection attempts to your computer over a period of time or more connections (or both). Obviously, this is a weak spot for viruses to enter into your PC, so it's a no-brainer why MS decided to max this out at 10 connection attempts in a small period of time--it limits the amount of virus spreading.
