Tokina intros four new lenses

The whole website is in Japanese, and Babel Fish Translator was giving errors in trying to translate the page to English. But very interesting focal lengths, specially the 16-50 f/2.8.

16-50mm f/2.8 DX = 24-75mm
50-135mm f/2.8 DX = 75-202mm


Seems like they are makeing the top line 35mm focal lengths in what would be the equivilant APS-C focal lengths with the FOV factor. Very interesting! I wonder what pricing will be like, hopefully lower than the regular runs of 28-70s and 70-200s.

can anyone decipher which mounts these will come in? Nikon, Canon, etc. Also, what does the 'DX' mean in the Tokina world?

Try: THK Photo Products Inc. They distribute Tokina in the US. Canada has no distributor.

DX means the same as Nikon's DX lenses I believe.

Hmmm... I always thought the DX was a Digital designator.

Yeah, DX means the image circle is smaller than that of a 35mm lens--meant to fit on an APS-C size imager.

Mike, I would say it will be in a Canon and Nikon mount to begin with. Probabley not Pentax, and definatley not Minolta since they are closing up shop. In the Canon mount they will be EF-S more than likely. I believe that the Tokina DX lenses can still be used on 35mm cameras they just severally vignette, I am not positive on this though. Hope this helps.
