Just got to thinking about something. Follow me on this if you will please.
That 18-200 3.5-5.6 AF-S with VR should would make a good Walk Around Holiday Lens(I am also coinging the phrase WAHL[pronounced wall]). I had looked at the Sigma and Tamron versions, and was disappointed by both. If Nikon can pull it off for less than $650 I will definatley be giving that lens a go. I think Nikon is actually competing with Sigma on some of the lower level lenses they are releasing, and that is why I think this 18-200 isnt vapor ware. One example is that Nikon came out with the 18-55 and the 55-200 in April of this year, Sigma came out with the 18-50 and 55-200 back in October of last year, about six months apart. Granted neither are anything I to write home about, and neither are Nikons versions, but I do see a trend here. Sigma released the 18-200 in Febuary of this year, and if Nikon releases theirs at Photokina it will be about 8 months after Sigma.
I think Nikon is waiting to announce this at Photokina which is in what, another week?
I hope they have some other lenses lined up along with that 18-200, like maybe a 70-210 AF-S f/4 for about $600. Just a hunch I have on that one. I also heard they are getting ready to replace the entire Super Tele Prime(300mm+) line with VR lenses. I personally dont care much for those because I cant afford them, well I could afford one but then I wouldnt be married anymore. Uhhh, that would be an expensive lens, cost me half of everything. LOL
Thoughts?
