Lens/Camera tests Can, Nik, Olym DO Labs system

Postby Frank B » Feb Sun 15, 2004 3:32 pm

Interesting thread on the test of a number of lenses/cameras using the new DO Labs system by the magazine Chasseurs d'Images. Al lot of controversy over the validity of the test and the findings.

Yeah, we have another no-processing vs. post-processing comparison, which I think is flawed.

I suppose OOC (Out Of Camera) shots can be compared but who doesn't process their photos to some degree in a photo editor? As another person stated, I thought this software was for processing photos, not used to see which brands are better. Seems like a subjective and biased twist.

It is unclear to me how much these tests would be affected by by changes in in-camera processing, although, the Canon 300D and 10D I believe were rated about the same with the same lens even though the in camera default sharpening is greater with the 300D. For me, the question would be how accurate is the test information assessing the starting quality that the camera/lens is capable of giving you and whether that means anything after post processing. Also, from the bit I understand I am not sure that the system test total resolution at all. It seems to test the quality of what has been resolved.

I would need to understand a lot more to know how much weight to give these tests.
