Great shot to begin with Tony! The solarization looks pretty authentic, I used to do a lot of them in the B&W darkroom when I was in college.
Tip - The most convincing digital solarization I've seen has been from Nik's Color Efex Pro 3.0
Give the demo a try, I think you'll LOVE the solarization from it.

I agree, I did some solarization in college and this looks very much like the real thing.

When I did B&W in a darkroom, I did solarization myself. This is so much easier.
