B&H finally has the US brand of the 85mm 1.8 lens in stock, but I can't place an order until after 9pm EDT due to some holiday.

That gives me enough time to talk myself out of getting it! What the heck are they thinking?

Is B&H ever open. LOL. Great store though, but I still have good giggle when I hear people who want order and have to unfortunately wait due to the rather elaborate holiday system they have.

Yeah... I'm always wanting to copy their schedule and hand it over to my bosses and say " See ! There are holidays where people get time off ! "

What I find interesting about it is that they actually shut down their online ordering system...as if a computer actually needs a holiday too!

Folks,

Its not a holiday. It is their Sabbath. From sun down Friday until sun down Saturday they close. This even means their online order system. It might seem strange to us who are now accustomed to everyone being open all the time but for this store they are following their religious beliefs and I back them for doing that.

While we're waxing semantics, technically the Jewish Sabbat (or sabbath) is a holiday. One meaning of holiday is holy day.

From Wikipedia: "Judaism accords Shabbat the status of a joyous holy day. In many ways, Jewish law gives Shabbat the status of being the most important holy day in the Jewish calendar."

A quick search in a dictionary of the word holiday will find this meaning: 4. a religious feast day; holy day, esp. any of several usually commemorative holy days observed in Judaism.

So you're right, they are observing sabbath, but they're are on holiday observing that holy day (taken from the word holiday as described by the british for cessation from work!)

I was going to place the order this morning, before work, but had completely forgotten my plan.

I'll be placing it tonight when I get home from work. The nice thing is, I'm off on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays now, so I can take the cheaper delivery choice.
