$4500-$5500 USD. I'm guessing. Nice addition to the Nikkor lenses. I remember hearing that Canon was coming out with a 200mm IS 1.8 or 2.0, and this might be more true than once thought because of Nikon coming out with their own.

Yes it is. Nikon is definitely going to keep a lot more of their consumer base with releasing VR primes. Pair that with a 1D MK II or 1Ds competitor (or both as some think), Nikon will be in a nice position.

Nikon should price this lens competitively and agressively to regain market ($3500-4000 would be great). What's next, a 95mm f/1.4 AF-S VR to replace the 85mm f/1.4 AF-D?

On a serious note....
How many people use telephoto primes of this length ?
I mean f2 is great, VR is wonderful, AFs is manditory (imho) but why 200mm and not 400 or 600 ?
I've got an f2.8 80-200 zoom which I love but I find I'm often reaching for the 2x when
I'm using the long end...
The part of this that intregues me the most is the size and weight , this is a small (relatively) tele !
The part I'm concerned about is the collar position, seems like the balance would be all off???
What ya think?

Well - I think this lens, although not DX, is aimed at the DSLR user rather than film. The f/2 means it's a dream to use with teleconverters as far as f-stops go. I think they will sell more Tcons this way (hence the TC17e II announcement.) It's cheaper and means carrying less glass... not a bad idea.
On a 1.5x sensor without a Tcon....it's a 300mm f/2.0
On a 1.5x sensor with a 1.4x Tcon it's a 420mm f/2.8
On a 1.5x sensor with a 1.7x Tcon it's a 510mm f/3.3
On a 1.5x sensor with a 2.0x Tcon it's a 600mm f/4.0
On a 1.5x sensor without a Tcon....it's a 300mm f/2.0
On a 1.5x sensor with a 1.4x Tcon it's a 420mm f/2.8
On a 1.5x sensor with a 1.7x Tcon it's a 510mm f/3.3
On a 1.5x sensor with a 2.0x Tcon it's a 600mm f/4.0
